Where Will You Spend Eternity?

On a Friday evening in July 2011, a motorist crossed into the path of my sister’s vehicle, hitting her head-on and killing her.  When I arrived at the scene and learned of her death, I was horrified.  This is not real I thought, but it was.  She was dead.  It did not matter that she was only fifty years old and in good health with a family.  In an unexpected moment, she was dead.  We often dismiss that such a thing could happen to us, but the truth is that today could be our last day on earth.  Friend, let me ask you a question:

If you died right now, do you know 100% for sure that you would go to heaven?

Many people don’t like to think about death, but it is a reality of life that will visit each of us.  So we need to consider, “What happens after we die?”  The answer is simple–a home with God (heaven) or separation from God (hell).  The above question deserves your consideration.  If you cannot answer with a definite “YES” about knowing for certain you will go to heaven, then please take the time to be informed about five things you need to know about yourself.

You are a sinner…

The Bible says in Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”

This is true.  All of us have done something wrong, and this wrong is rooted in the fact that we have a sin nature, thus we have been declared by God to be guilty of sin.  This guilt of sin is a huge problem.  It separates us from God by condemning us.

You are condemned to hell because of your sin…

The Bible says in John 3:18, “…he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

Notice in our present condition, we are condemned “already”.  This means we are currently separated from God now and will be in eternity unless something is done to erase the guilt of our sin.  Something was done by God on your behalf for the simple fact that God loves you.

You are loved by God…

The Bible says in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Do you understand the key point of this verse? God Loves You!  Regardless of who you are or what you have done, God loves you unconditionally.  Wow!  And because of His love for you, He wants to give you a home in heaven, but He cannot unless you deal with your guilt of sin.  There is no sin allowed in heaven, so our guilt must be forgiven.  Among the many consequences we might experience, one major damage sin causes is separation from God.  That’s right!  Unless we are cleansed of our sin, we cannot go to heaven, for there is no sin in heaven.  What are we to do?  There is nothing we can do, for we cannot cleanse ourselves of spiritual uncleanness.  However, God can cleanse us of our sin, and that is exactly what He offers through Jesus Christ.  Sin carries a great price, but that price was paid for us.

You had a price paid for you…

The Bible says in Romans 5:8, “But God commendeth (showed forth) His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Sin has a price tag that comes with it, damnation in hell.  But Jesus paid the penalty for us on the cross.  His death, burial, and resurrection is God’s answer to our need, and anyone can be forgiven and rescued from hell by receiving God’s gift of eternal life.  How can you receive this gift of God?  Acknowledge your guilt of sin and call upon the Lord for deliverance (salvation) from it.

You can be saved from hell…

The Bible says in Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Yes, anyone can be saved.  We are guilty of sin, but God has made it possible through Jesus Christ to be forgiven and saved.  There is nothing standing in your way from being saved if you will choose to become a child of God.  My friend, you can know for certain right now that you are going to heaven.  The Bible declares this plainly (I John 5:13).  Will you call upon the Lord to save you?  Will you make that decision right now?  If you want to become a child of God and go to Heaven, then you must be forgiven of your sin and receive Jesus Christ as your Savior.  There is no other plan of salvation (John 14:6).  With a sincere heart, pray unto the Lord to save your soul from hell.  Make the following prayer your prayer, and believe in your heart that God will save you.

“Dear Lord, I confess that I am a guilty sinner and that I need to be saved.  I believe that Jesus died on the cross to pay my sin debt.  Please forgive me of my sin, come into my heart, and save my soul.  I now receive Jesus Christ as my Savior.  Amen!”
